Google Hangouts Transitions to Newly Enhanced “Google Chats”
ITS is excited to announce that this Friday, July 24th, Google Hangouts will be transitioned to the newly enhanced Google Chat. Chat has a more modern interface, team rooms that support better team collaboration, emoji reactions to make work fun, and much more. As part of this transition, Georgia Southern Chat users will receive early access to these great new features.
To minimize the chance of missing messages, users can now download the new mobile app for Android or iOS. All previous chat history from classic Hangouts will be accessible in Gmail for conversations where History is turned “on.” If you have important messaging groups in classic Hangouts, we recommend that you recreate them as Rooms in the new Chat.
