Authentication Methods

A smartphone or tablet with the Duo Mobile app is the fastest and easiest way to use Duo. Don’t have a smartphone or tablet? We support other authentication methods, as well, including landline telephones and non-smart cellphones.

Smartphone or Tablet

Using Duo push with your smartphone or tablet is the easiest, most convenient way to use Duo. Simply download the Duo app on your device and enroll your smartphone or tablet. Each time you’re prompted to authenticate, Duo will send a “push” notification to your device using the downloaded app.

You can also use the Duo Mobile app to generate passcodes that you can use to authenticate. See our Device Enrollment Options under the “Register Device” tab for step-by-step instructions.

Landline Telephone

Registering a landline device allows you to use the “Call Me” option in Duo to receive a phone call verifying your login. While most users register desk phones when selecting this verification option, you can also use cell phones to receive a verification call.

The “Call Me” option serves as a great second verification method just in case you lose or break your smart device and still need to access your accounts. To learn how to register for this option, select the “Landline Telephone” option under the “Register Device” tab.

SMS Text Code
If you’re using a flip phone or other non-smart cell phone, SMS text codes are a great mobile option for authentication. Select the “SMS Text Code” option under the “Register Device” tab for complete instructions.

Completing the Enrollment Process

If you’ve read the two previous tabs, you probably have a pretty good idea of the authentication method you’d like to use with Duo. Step-by-step instructions can be accessed for each authentication method using the buttons below. When you’re ready to enroll, it’s a good idea to have these instructions, along with the device you’re registering, ready and available.
