Banner Big Bang

What is “Big Bang”?

If you’ve viewed the ITS Critical Path Timeline or Electronic Student Services Map, this may not be the first time you’ve heard of the event “Big Bang.” This explosive sounding term is the moniker given to the scheduled maintenance window for combining Banner Student Information Systems. Through this process, the Armstrong State University (Banner B) and Georgia Southern University (Banner A) Banner systems will become one unified system that will contain records for all students, faculty, and staff in the new Georgia Southern University.

Big Bang Downtime

Big Bang will take place from February 16 – 26, 2018. During this time the Banner system on the Statesboro campus (Banner A) will be inaccessible to students, faculty, and staff. The Armstrong and Liberty campuses’ (Banner B) Banner system (Port, SHIP, etc.) will not be affected. Continue reading for a complete list of services that will not be available during the Big Bang downtime.

Banner Services for Students

During the Big Bang downtime, Banner and a number of its auxiliary services will be inaccessible for students enrolled on the Statesboro campus. This downtime will not affect students enrolled on the Armstrong and Liberty campuses, however. During Big Bang, Statesboro campus students can expect the following Banner-related services to be inaccessible from 5:00 pm on February 16th until 8:00 am on February 26th:

  • Emergency Messaging Options (Alerts can still be sent, but students cannot update contact information)
  • Student Dashboard
  • WINGS
  • Enrollment Certification
  • Course Search
  • MyScholarship
  • Housing Prepayments
  • View/Pay Your Tuition Bill
  • Campus Carry Information
  • Parking Permits & Citations
  • Spring Dining Plans & EagleExpress Packages

Banner Services for Faculty & Staff

During the Big Bang downtime, Banner and a number of its auxiliary services will be inaccessible for faculty and staff on the Statesboro campus or those faculty and staff using services int the Banner A environment. This downtime will not affect students enrolled on the Armstrong and Liberty campuses or faculty and staff utilizing the Banner B environment. During Big Bang, Statesboro campus faculty and staff can expect the following Banner-related services to be inaccessible from 5:00 pm on February 16th until 8:00 am on February 26th:

  • Academic Alerts
  • Attendance Verification
  • MyClass Calendar
  • Course Search
  • Campus Carry Information
  • Business Objects
