On Friday, May 20, the Portal Elementary School Technology Club visited the Multimedia Development Center (MDC) at the Bishop Field House. Ms. Julie Lumpkin, Portal Elementary Gifted Teacher, created the club for fourth and fifth grade students. Members of the club met after school to explore different types of technologies, applications of those technologies and how technology is used in various careers. Mr. Jeff Giddens, Bulloch County Schools Instructional Technology Specialist and Bulloch County Schools Regional Tech Fair Coordinator, connected the technology that the students have been studying with the technology that they saw in person.

The visit to the MDC, one of several stops the students made during the day, gave the students an understanding of some of the careers that use specific technologies. The students got the opportunity to see first-hand opportunities for post-secondary education and careers right here at home in the Bulloch County area. The club also visited the Georgia Southern FAB Lab and Sea Island Bank.

The students heard about multimedia production and broadcasting from Art Berger, Director of the MDC, Rebecca Lynch, academic multimedia producer, James Braswell, Georgia Southern student and producer and Jeremiah Womble, MDC engineer, who gave students a tour of the television control room during a live broadcast of a Georgia Southern baseball game.
