Windows Workstation Updates February 18

Georgia Southern Enterprise Device Management Services (EDMS) will be making updates on all Windows workstations on Thursday night, February 18, beginning at 10:00pm.

These updates will improve security and performance and will affect Windows workstations only. If you have a laptop that is not connected directly to the Georgia Southern network on campus, your computer will be updated the next time you connect to the on-campus network or if you connect to the virtual private network (VPN) (please note: updates via the VPN may take longer than when connected on campus).

Reminder: Restarts take place during what is called the “restart window,” which is between midnight and 4:00am each morning.

These updates will require a restart that will take place automatically during the next restart window on Friday morning. If your computer is turned off during this time, updates will be applied the next time you turn on your computer. Your machine will be restarted during the next workstation restart window.

There are no specific application upgrades this month. All updates are Windows operating system security patches.

At the end of the day Thursday, February 18, please take these steps:

  1. Save all of your work
  2. Restart your computer
  3. Do not log in

In this way, the updates will be less likely to encounter conflicts.

Thank you for your help in keeping Georgia Southern’s workstations up-to-date and protected against intrusion.
